| Disaster risk reduction in health sector |
|
When hospitals, health facilities or health systems fail in disaster and emergency situations, whether for structural or functional reasons, the result is the same: they are not available to threat the victims at precisely the moment when it is most needed. WHO and UN/ISDR are therefore jointly taking the lead in 2008-2009 World Disaster Reduction Campaign: Hospitals Safe from Disasters, Reduce Risk, Produce Health Facilities, Save Live at a global level. This effort expended in the region through a strong partnership between WHO/EMRO and UN/ISDR, with signing of MoU and joined activities at both regional level and national level. WHO/EMRO and UN/ISDR, WANA will partner with governments, international and regional organizations, non-governmental organizations and individuals throughout the region to raise awareness about why and how to redouble efforts to protect health facilities and ensure they can function during and in the aftermath of disasters. |
